Mikimoto opens flagship store in Singapore at Marina Bay Sands

Japanese luxury pearl jeweller Mikimoto celebrates its 120th birthday with the opening of a flagship boutique in Singapore at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands

Mikimoto, the renowned Japanese luxury pearl jeweller, marks its 120th year in the business of pearl cultivation and superior craftsmanship. The brand kicks off its 120th birthday festivities with the grand opening of a flagship boutique in Singapore at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands.
The 409-square-foot space’s blue-and-white colour palette is inspired by the very core of Mikimoto – the deep blue sea where pearl oysters reside and luminescent pearls are born. This simple yet elegant interior resonates with the classic signature design of Mikimoto creations. After all, the brand is the jewellery creator and designer for the Japanese Royal family.

A World of Creativity

For its 120th anniversary, the jewellery house presents the collection, A World of Creativity. This water-themed collection showcases cascading pearls and diamonds in a series of stylised waterfalls – blending both the beauty of nature and the glamour of pearls.

Three one-of-a-kind Mikimoto pearl creations have also been specially flown into Singapore for this double celebration – the White Bouquet necklace, the Mebius necklace and the Tales of Flowers tiara. The stunning Mebius necklace is a true display of the brand’s craftsmanship. Rows of Ayoka pearls are set in 18k white gold and accented by brilliant diamonds to drape around the neck like an elegant scarf, proving that pearls are truly high fashion accessories.

Find Clarins Extra Firming Day Cream, $130

Can Clarins' new Extra Firming Day Cream live up to its promise of younger looking skin in just four weeks? We find out

Finding a day cream is almost like finding a soul mate. There are some that will be good, there are some that will be bad, and there are some that will literally change your life. Clarins' new Extra Firming Day cream firmly falls into the latter.
An intensive antiaging treatment, this softly scented cream is designed to rebuild the bonds between our skins collagen, elastin and cells for  younger-looking and firmer skin in just four weeks.
So how exactly does it do this? And how, more importantly, does it differ from the hundreds of other day creams that have come our way. Well, firstly, rather than focus on individual concerns, the Extra Firming Day Cream is designed to actually strengthen the skin's basic architecture - meaning it can firm, tone and rejuvenate every level of the skin structure.
So how does it stand out amongst the crowd? Well, this little gem really gets to work from the moment it hits your skin. With the hyaluronic acid and oat sugar combination smoothing features immediately, that leaves the rest of the unique, paraben and petrochemical free ingredients, including organic green banana, lemon thyme and bocoa, free to get to work on the skin structure. What's more - the easily absorbed, grease-free finish makes it the perfect make-up base.
While firmer, younger-looking skin might be a promise many will plump for but few can deliver - The Extra Firming Day cream really doesn't lie - those dread fine lines and wrinkles have given way to a radiant, noticeably younger looking us. And what's more - with just a finger full of cream needed, a month in, we still have half a tub to savour.

How to wear and pick the right sunscreen

Ning Lieu, Beauty Writer of Her World
You don’t have to be standing directly in the sun to be exposed to harmful UV rays. Sun damage can be caused by just sitting near a window. So even if you’re not going to bask in the sun at the beach, it’s best to protect yourself with sunscreen.
There are many sunscreens in the market today from lotions to sticks to sprays – you’ll definitely be able to find a formula that you like and suits your lifestyle. But how do you wear them correctly or pick the right one for you?
For application of sunscreen, order is of utmost important. Sunscreen goes on after moisturiser (or other skincare treatments) but always before makeup. If you’re not sure what ingredients are in your sunscreen, it’s usually best to wait for 20 minutes after applying your sunscreen before going out so the UV filters have time to form a protective layer.
Applying the right amount of sunscreen is also important. Too little and you won’t have enough to form a shield to protect your skin. For the entire face, a 10 to 20-cent blob of lotion-textured sunscreen would suffice. I usually pat the sunscreen into my face instead of rubbing it in. I find that this helps reduce skin irritation and ensures that sunscreen is more uniformly applied. Make sure to re-apply your sunscreen every two to three hours for fuller protection.
When shopping for sunscreen, the first thing I look at is the SPF rating. While it is a personal choice, for moisturisers with sun protection benefits, I try to use at least one with SPF15 and for sunscreens, I go for those with at least SPF35. Also take your skin tone into consideration when choosing the SPF. If you have a lighter skin tone, opt to increase your minimum SPF so you don’t burn as easily.
The texture of the sunscreen also must be taken into consideration. On a daily basis, I use a lightweight lotion sunscreen as a base before my makeup. For touch-ups, I usually use stick sunscreens. They are great for applying on smaller areas such as the nose bridge or cheek bones that usually are more exposed to the sun. When spending long hours in the sun, I tote a spray-on sunscreen around. It’s simple to use and fuss-free. Just spray it onto exposed areas such as your neck, hands or legs on the go. Never spray the product directly onto the face. Instead, I spray it onto my hands before applying it on my face.
If you’re going to be taking part in water activities or sweating it out, choose a water-resistant sunscreen. Be sure to reapply your sunscreen when you get out of the water or dry of your sweat. For those prone to acne, go for one that has an oil-free base.
So pick them right with these tips and you can be sure you’re well-protected the minute you step out into the sun!

L’eau Par Kenzo Colors: Limited edition fragrances for the summer

Kenzo Parfums launches two limited edition scents which are perfect for summer

LeauParKenzoColors_Story2.jpg
What’s the point of smelling like peaches and strawberries if your other half reeks of sweat and other bodily odours? There’s no way you’re going to make it as the next Posh and Becks or Brangelina if people walk away when you approach them.
That’s why Kenzo Parfums has decided to launch two limited edition fragrances this summer that are the perfect couple fragrance – L’eau Par Kenzo Colors pour femme and L’eau Par Kenzo Colors pour homme.
L’eau par Kenzo, which means “water by Kenzo” in French is the heart of inspiration for the new scents.
With Kenzo Takada’s (founder of maison Kenzo) obsession with giving the usually scentless and colourless water a new twist, he decided to collaborate with perfumers to capture the alluring smells of flowers, fruits and leaves in splashes of water.
Another touch that we thought was particularly interesting -the femme version of the fragrance was developed by male perfumer Aurélien Guichard while the homme version of the fragrance was developed by female perfumer Alexandra Kosinski.
LeauParKenzoColors_Story1.jpg
The L’eau Par Kenzo Colours pour femme is a fresh fruity floral fragrance for women with sparkling top notes of mandarin, ginger and white peach. The floral heart note of rose, lily and jasmine petals and a base of cedarwood and white mask, leaves the wearer smelling fresh and feminine.
The male version on the other hand is a fresh spicy, woody fragrance with invigorating top notes of ginger, lemon and coriander leaves. The heart notes of mint, cardamom, sage and woody base notes of cedarwood and white musk keep your man smelling masculine and sexy.
Of course, the icing on the cake has got to be the delightful bottle – which retains the silhouette of the original L’eau Par Kenzo but given a colourful twist in the shape of a rainbow.
So if you’re looking at switching up your signature scents for something lighter in summer, give the L’eau Par Kenzo Colors a go and get one for your significant other at the same time! It's definitely way less cheesy than wearing couple tees.
