Sulwhasoo launches its first ever whitening range Snowise EX in SG

Check out the entire Snowise EX range from Korean beauty brand Sulwhasoo and discover how it helps to restore skin’s radiance and rejuvenate exhausted skin

Sulwhasoo snowise ex 600.jpg
Korean holistic skincare brand Sulwhasoo (say: Soul-wha-soo) which opened its first counter in Singapore at Tangs Orchard in 2012, has launched its first ever whitening range, Snowise EX.
While most of us shun the sun knowing that UV rays deeply root age spots and blemishes, Sulwhasoo has reportedly discovered a second type of ray present in sunlight that causes premature ageing as well as uneven skin tone – Infrared Rays.
Sulwhasoo says it has found that the heat from Infrared Rays lowers anti-oxidant levels in the skin, damaging the collagen in the skin’s dermis which leads to dull skin tone and yellowing.
In Korean medicinal terms, ‘inner heat’ has an impact on complexion. Sulwhasoo says the optimal temperature for a clear and radiant complexion is at 30 to 31 deg C. However, when skin is exposed to Infrared Rays, the skin’s temperature rises to a high of 40 deg C and if not adequately cooled, impurities can accumulate in the skin which can then lead to skin fatigue, dehydration and pigmentation.
To restore radiance and rejuvenate skin that is exhausted from the heat, Sulwhasoo formulated their whitening range with the exclusive Snowise Tri-White Complex. This three-dimensional whitening approach uses White Ginseng Saponin to treat UV damage, White Cloud Grass to stop Infrared Rays damage, and White Ginseng Polysaccharides to slow ageing-related damage.

My secret “422” facial cleansing routine

If you’re wondering what “422” is, I’m going to let you in on one of my cleansing beauty secrets.
Cleansing is the most important step of my skincare regime.
From removing my makeup to exfoliating, I spend a good eight minutes each night cleansing my face. I’ve found that this is the optimal amount of time it takes for me to cleanse my face fully - if I rush through cleansing, my face doesn’t feel clean enough and if I cleanse for too long, my skin feels too dry.
To me, my cleansing routine marks the end of my day and going through each step helps me unwind.
I’ve also heard countless times that going to sleep with your makeup on makes you age faster so no matter how tired I am, I’m sure to remove all traces of makeup before i go to bed.
I usually cleanse twice a day and use different products depending on my skin condition and the type of makeup I’m wearing.

My Secret “422” facial cleansing routine
I love using foam cleansers but I hate how some of them strip too much moisture from my skin leaving my skin dry and tight. After trying many cleansers over the years, I’ve found some gentle foam cleansers that work great for my skin so I opt to use them in the mornings.  I currently use either Cle de Peau Beaute’s Synactif soap, Philosophy’s 3-in-1 Purity or Shiseido’s The Skincare Extra Gentle Cleansing Foam.
In the evenings, my eight minute “422” facial cleansing routine comes in. It starts with four minutes of makeup removal, two minutes of using a foam cleanser and two minutes of exfoliating.
“4” - I start with removing the makeup around my eyes. I have short eyelashes so I dress them with many coats of mascara to make them look longer. Excluding a base coat, I typically apply a total four coats of mascara. So usually when I use any eye makeup remover, I’ll know if it works in an instant. Using cotton pads, I remove my daily eye makeup (waterproof eyeliner and four coats of mascara) with Garnier’s Clean Sensitive 2-in-1 Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover. On the rare occasion when I only have one or two coats of mascara, I’ll use Biefesta’s BrightUp Cleansing Lotion.
Next, I use cleansing oils to remove makeup on the skin. I love the feeling of massaging the cleansing oil on my skin, it’s very soothing. For days when I use only sunscreen, I use Bobbi Brown’s Cleansing Oil which provides light cleansing. For removing my daily BB cream, I use Shu Uemura’s Whitefficient cleansing oil which does the job and leaves my skin feeling brighter. For days when I have heavier makeup on (cue full on foundation and lots of eyeshadow), I use Shu Uemura’s Ultimate8 Sublime Cleansing Oil which removes all residue of makeup effortlessly.
“2” - Then I double cleanse with a foam cleanser. I start by lathering the foam up on my hands before massaging the foam on my face in circular motions. Normally I use Laneige’s Multi-Cleanser that has micro-beads which provide a very gentle scrub but when in need of a deeper cleanse, I use Ettusais’ foaming cleanser (Ettusais recommends that you do not leave this on your skin for more than 30 seconds).
I don’t use my Clarisonic brush daily, but when I do, I prefer to use it with Fresh’s Soy Face cleanser which is great for my sensitive skin.
I also recently discovered a new Japanese cleansing brush by Mizuho Brush. It’s called a Nose Cleaning Brush which is designed to gently cleanse the contours of the nose. So instead of over scrubbing the side of the nose, I use this instead. Made from natural pine squirrel hair, the brush efficiently cleans the side of the nose and the nose pores. It’s not available in Singapore, but you can get it online for about $38 from jshoppers.com.
“2” - Finally, I give my skin a good scrub once or twice a week by exfoliating with Dermalogica’s Daily Microfoliant or For Beloved One’s Melasleep Whitening Exfoliating Gel.
It may seem extensive, but with all the makeup I pile on and environmental factors (cue the sun and dust) my skin goes through each day, a good cleanse is a must (for me at least).
Found any new cleansing products you love lately? What’s your cleansing regime like? I’d love to hear about them. Share your cleansing regime with me in the comments below.

Pay with your phone for rewards

New app eliminates the need to carry a bunch of loyalty cards yet helps users earn more rewards

Tired of lugging a stack of prepaid cards, loyalty cards and discount vouchers? Mogi has the solution.
Mogi is a new mobile wallet app created by Singapore company Mobile Media Creations that consolidates the lot.
Available on Apple iOS and Google Android, Mogi allows you to buy and store cards from your favourite retailers in one convenient app. It also allows you to claim instant discounts and redeem gifts when you pay with your smartphone.

The concept is similar to coffee chain Starbucks' prepaid card, which lets customers pay with the card's stored value and be rewarded with free drinks if they use the card frequently.
With Mogi, you purchase credits for a retail outlet in the form of a prepaid card and the rewards start flowing the minute you top up.
You get extra value for every top up and the amount varies based on the merchant's reward scheme. So if you top up $100, you might have $110 stored in the card. Topping up can be done via a PayPal account or credit card, but both payment information will not be saved on your handsets.
Ms Kong Shuyun, 29, a manager, welcomes the convenience that Mogi offers. She said: "I do not carry too many cards just the ones I use most frequently. It's quite annoying when I realise I've left these cards at home when I need them."
During payment, a quick recognition code is created on your device. The code, which is valid for only five minutes for security purposes, is scanned by placing your phone on the sales terminal or letting a cashier scan the code with another smartphone. Unlike most daily deal programmes, which usually draw customers with huge discounts, Mogi aims to retain customers by providing extra value and rewards.
"With daily deals, merchants are obliged to give 70 to 90 per cent discounts, only to realise that customers will not go back to them when items go back to the full price. Many merchants will not take up daily deals again because of the lack of loyalty," said Mobile Media Creations chief executive officer Rashad Budeiri.
As of now, you can pay for your purchases with Mogi across 70 retail, health, beauty and dining outlets here. Consumers will have more retail outlets to choose from when the app extends its support to another 150 stores in the following months. Loyalty points can also be collected with every use of the card, which can be used to redeem gifts at your favourite stores.
Mogi also sends notifications to the user, highlighting promotions such as a discount voucher or free items to be redeemed at various retail outlets. Merchants have the freedom to customise the app's top-up amount and discount vouchers for their stores, and even place advertisements into the Mogi app on their own through a Web-based back-end system. -STRAITS TIMES.COM

SEE PHOTOS: From now to January 27, get to shop for cult Japanese denim labels Momotaro Jeans, OMNIGOD and more in Singapore at JRunway

Denim fans will know all too well — that a well-worn pair of jeans is a fashion staple.

And in the world of designer denim, it’s the Japanese labels that still stand out. Some of these have even earned a cult following with their artisanal quality and their use of natural dyes.
Hailing from the Japanese “denim capital” of Kurashiki, 10 of such Japanese cult denim brands will be available in Singapore from now to January 27 at JRunway. Located at Plaza Singapura’s new extension, JRunway has been touted as the first Japanese multi-label store in Singapore.

Through its Beautiful Japan Denim showcase, JRunway will carry selected items from premium denim brands; highlights include pieces from pioneering Japanese denim labels like Big John and Momotaro Jeans.
JRunway kicked off its Japanese denim showcase on January 18 with a fashion show, featuring the 10 Japanese labels. Styled by students from Lasalle College of Arts, these fashion majors showed off nearly over 30 different ways in which you can wear denim.

Although this showcase runs for one week only, you can expect to see more from these brands; selected labels may be carried by Singapore retailers in the near future.

As a collaboration between Japan’s Kurashiki Fashion Centre and JRunway management company AWCG, the Beautiful Japan Denim launch hopes to introduce more Japanese denim labels to Singapore stores and shoppers.

This week-long showcase could also bring more denim labels to the racks of JRunway too, according to marketing manager Namiko Satake. JRunway already carries Momotaro Jeans in-store since its November 2012 opening and is likely to retail some of the participating denim labels, depending on the “test sales” this week.

If your man is a denim enthusiast, this is one shopping stop that you could bring him to as womenswear takes a backseat at this fashion showcase. Only Delay by Win & Sons, Omnigod and women’s denim brand Denim Closet will be retailing designs for the ladies.

JRunway also has an ongoing seasonal sale, with up to 50 per cent off on selected items. So take the chance now to add new denim and more Japanese fashion to your wardrobe!
The Beautiful Japan Denim designs retails from $200 to $400. JRunway’s Beautiful Japan Denim showcase runs from now to January 27, 2013.
