Singapore flowers inspire Poh Heng's Garden Sonnet jewellery

SEE PHOTOS: Celebrate the flowers you’ve grown up seeing in Singapore when you wear jewellery from Poh Heng’s Garden Sonnet jewellery collection which features orchids, bougainvillea and more familiar flowers

The oft-heard description of Singapore as a “garden city” ‒ coined by Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew when he first imagined the ideal city landscape in 1968 ‒ has become reality with flower-bedecked roadsides and new attractions like Gardens By the Bay.
Now, you can wear a personal piece of the garden city with Poh Heng’s Garden Sonnet, a jewellery collection inspired by these familiar flowers.

To give these gems a life-like appearance, the Poh Heng Garden Sonnet jewellery line renders each petal and vine in three dimensions. You can feel the arch and curve of each pendant, elegantly crafted in stylised representations of Singapore flowers.
Highlights of the collection include the Garden Sonnet Bougainvillea (seen on the left above, $2,380) which features a delicate swirl of bougainvillea flowers on its diamond-studded pendant. A trio of rubies represent the natural fuchsia vibrancy of these flowers, while making the flowers sparkle. The pendant’s three-dimensional effect makes each flower stand out too.

For gifts to please your mum, look to the gold and jade pieces from the Poh Heng Garden Sonnet collection.
The humble fern is transformed into a stylised leaf inset with diamonds in 18k yellow gold on the Garden Sonnet fern necklace (on the left above, $2,380), with a pear-shaped piece of jade dangling at its end like a ripe fruit.
The periwinkle (pictured above, top right) is featured on a gold oriental fan pendant ($1,160), while the flowers of the Pong Pong tree adorn a delicate basket of yellow gold on the Garden Sonnet Cerbera ($510).

The star piece of the collection features glittering orchids, accompanied by a elegant vines of diamonds. Look closer and you’ll see yellow and pink diamonds inset selectively on the jewelled flowers, much like the colour gradient you’ll find on blooming orchids.

Unlike the typical ring setting with a simple clasp, the Celestial diamond is uplifted and set upon a stellar white gold setting to form an extravagant centerpiece that enhances the radiance and enchanting beauty of the gemstone.
The Celestial Zenith ring collection highlights two distinctive ring designs. You can opt for a simple ring of smooth white gold, or accentuate the splendor with a ring shank set with a brilliant array of tiny diamonds.
A spectacular design exalting the elegance of Celestial diamonds, the Celestial Zenith ring is also an alluring option for an engagement ring.

Singapore jeweller Choo Yilin to showcase at London Jewellery Week

Singapore sustainable jewellery brand, Choo Yilin, has been invited to participate in the Treasure showcase, part of London Jewellery Week 2013, where it will release new Peranakan collection

Jewellery brand Choo Yilin will launch brand new collections at its Treasure showcase as part of London Jewellery Week 2013. Based on the label’s Asian heritage, the collection will refer to the Peranakan culture and use “up-cycled” wood, jadeite, gemstones and bronze, and have been crafted by Cambodian artisans who are part of a social enterprise collective.

“Our label has become synonymous with telling stories of conservation and heritage and this new collection is no exception,” explains Choo Yilin, the founder behind the eponymous brand.
“Peranakan culture has been something that Singaporeans and other Southeast Asians hold very proudly, not least because it’s truly distinctive to that region of the world. Our aim with this collection was to make the culture, traditionally associated with a very heavy ethnic cast, accessible to the modern Cosmopolitan woman.”
Not only will the Peranakan collection (pictured above) use “up-cycled” wood, 50 per cent of the bronze has also been sourced sustainably. The bronze will be gilded in 18K gold and the pieces will also feature the brightly coloured precious and semi-precious gemstones ‒ like amethysts, rhodolite garnets, white topazes and sapphires ‒ that Choo Yilin is known for.

Statement earrings and necklaces are the stars of the collection – no surprise there – those are what the duo do the best.
With our penchant for all things edgy, we are particularly drawn to the Fluoro & Oxy range. We like the refreshing combination of gunmetal with fluorescent stones; but for something that will take you from day to night, the Crystal & Gold range is our top pick.
