Puma celebrates 45 years of the Suede with #forthestreet contest

If you are not an avid b-boy fan or street dancer, you might want to know the two defining points of a pair of Puma Suede sneakers: They are the only shoe sport fat laces in the Puma archive style of the 1970s and feature a distinctive leaping cat on the heel cap.

Seen on early breakdancing crews New York City Breakers and the Rock Steady Crew in the 1980s, the Puma Suede sneakers started out dancing with the b-boyers and never looked back. After going through many revisions from its original version, Puma has released the Future Suede, which retains its 1968 profile but has been tweaked for aesthetics and performance.

If you shied away from these sneakers because of their thick soles, you’ll be glad to hear that Puma has ditched the heavy bottom for a lightweight sole in the Future Suede. The shoes are decked out with Puma Trinomic hexagons, heel clips, and eyelets so people will still be able to recognise your Suedes from a distance and through your fast footwork.

Puma is celebrating the 45th year of the Suede in 2013, and are giving away a pair of personalised Puma Suede sneakers – yes, you could have your name embroidered on your very own pair of plush leather sneakers with a napped finish, so you can show your love for the street, Puma and b-boying.

From now until July 7, 2013, submit photos of your favourite street, alley or road sign in Singapore with the hashtags #forthestreet #SG through Instagram. Add a short three-word description with some spunk, because every week, the most creative or unique entry will be picked. You could also get a Puma t-shirt with your winning Instagram photo printed on it.
