Foreword Labels’ accessories range is our latest obsession; we love the
mix of hardware and soft silk in these handmade bracelets and neckpieces
Young Singapore fashion label Foreword Labels launched in 2012 as part of the Parco Next Next incubator project with a line of feminine ready-to-wear and a range of more “hard-edged” accessories.
According to designer Evelyn Ng – one half of the design team with Pearly Wee – the idea behind the two lines was to have the harder accessories “toughen up” the more girly feel of the clothes.
What the team has discovered is that the accessories have become the runaway success of the label, being picked up almost immediately by established multi-brand stores like Blackmarket, Actually and Egg3.
Created from a mix of actual hardware – we’re talking industrial hex nuts and washers (those things that go in your tap) – and softer, silk and cotton ropes, these completely handmade pieces have an intriguing mix of hard/soft, girly/masculine which makes them standout in a see of woven bracelets available online and in every Far East Plaza shop.
The braided and knotted patterns have a tribal feel but sans the over-decorative filips often found on such handmade pieces, the Foreword accessories come across as much more minimal in style. These are pieces that look equally at home on a casual tee as they do decorating a posh “little black dress”.
Priced from only $39 to $159, the Forward bracelets and neckpieces are also wonderfully affordable; which is a good thing considering it’s rather hard to stop at buying just one.
