SEE PHOTOS: From now to January 27,
get to shop for cult Japanese denim labels Momotaro Jeans, OMNIGOD and
more in Singapore at JRunway
Denim fans will know all too well — that a well-worn pair of jeans is a fashion staple.
And in the world of designer denim, it’s the Japanese labels that still stand out. Some of these have even earned a cult following with their artisanal quality and their use of natural dyes.
Hailing from the Japanese “denim capital” of Kurashiki, 10 of such Japanese cult denim brands will be available in Singapore from now to January 27 at JRunway. Located at Plaza Singapura’s new extension, JRunway has been touted as the first Japanese multi-label store in Singapore.
Available at Beautiful Denim Japan (L-R): Tenryo Denim, Big John and Momotaro Jeans
Through its Beautiful Japan Denim showcase, JRunway will carry
selected items from premium denim brands; highlights include pieces
from pioneering Japanese denim labels like Big John and Momotaro Jeans.
JRunway kicked off its Japanese denim showcase on January 18 with a fashion show, featuring the 10 Japanese labels. Styled by students from Lasalle College of Arts, these fashion majors showed off nearly over 30 different ways in which you can wear denim.

Although this showcase runs for one week only, you can expect to see
more from these brands; selected labels may be carried by Singapore
retailers in the near future.
As a collaboration between Japan’s Kurashiki Fashion Centre and JRunway management company AWCG, the Beautiful Japan Denim launch hopes to introduce more Japanese denim labels to Singapore stores and shoppers.
This week-long showcase could also bring more denim labels to the racks of JRunway too, according to marketing manager Namiko Satake. JRunway already carries Momotaro Jeans in-store since its November 2012 opening and is likely to retail some of the participating denim labels, depending on the “test sales” this week.
If your man is a denim enthusiast, this is one shopping stop that you could bring him to as womenswear takes a backseat at this fashion showcase. Only Delay by Win & Sons, Omnigod and women’s denim brand Denim Closet will be retailing designs for the ladies.
JRunway also has an ongoing seasonal sale, with up to 50 per cent off on selected items. So take the chance now to add new denim and more Japanese fashion to your wardrobe!
The Beautiful Japan Denim designs retails from $200 to $400. JRunway’s Beautiful Japan Denim showcase runs from now to January 27, 2013.
